Finding a suitable document

The easiest way to add your document is by copying the information and pasting it into WaiverSign. Some examples of suitable file types are .pdf, docx, .txt, etc. If your document does not allow for copying, you can try running it through an OCR converter. Google Drive has a free option.

Note: We recommend your waiver is something that has been reviewed by legal counsel familiar with your business industry and laws in your state/province. For more information click here.

Adding a new document to WaiverSign

Go to  CREATE & EDIT DOCUMENTS >> New Document

Document Name

Give your document a title. This will be visible to the people signing your document.

Document Content

Add the text from your waiver here. We recommend copying one paragraph at a time so you can catch any formatting issues you see when pasting it into your new WaiverSign document.

Be sure to scroll down to the bottom of the page and save your changes as you move through each part of the document.

Tip: Have formatting issues? You can paste without formatting using your keyboard.
Windows: CTRL+Shift+V
Mac: Option+Shift+Command+V

Using the formatting toolbar, you can add links, bold your text, or change the font size.

(Optional) Adding accept/decline or initials

If parts of your waiver have important points that you want to ensure are read by the signer, you can add a new section to ask for initials.

This section allows for the following options:

Require Participant Initials: The signer's only option is to agree and must be filled out to sign their waiver.
Allow Participant to Accept or Decline: Great for things that wouldn't negate the waiver, like add-ons.
Example: A participant would like to go rafting, but declines having their picture on social media.
Do not display Initials or Accept/Decline buttons: This section functions the same as the first text area under Document Content.

This is how they appear on your published document:

Tip: Try to keep the initial/accept/decline sections short to make it easier to read.

Settings

Expiration Options

You have two options:
Document does not expire or must be signed each time prior to participation - This is the default
Signed document is valid for a set number of days - You can set the waivers to expire. To see the status of a waiver, go to the Signed Documents page and search for the name or email.

Starting Adult Age

The default is 18 but can be changed if necessary.
Some examples for changing this are:
21 and over trip
Car rental agreements

UPDATE: As of June 2021, Date of Birth is no longer a mandatory field. Do keep in mind that by turning off this field, you can not enforce the Starting Adult Age feature of WaiverSign so it's recommended to avoid turning off DOB unless you've consulted legal counsel. If you need to verify Starting Adult Age, keep DOB as "required" in your document field settings.

Singing options - Adults, Minors, Guardians

Not all waivers are suitable for every audience. You can set who can sign by toggling on/off the following options:
Document can be signed for adults: Adult is signing for themselves
Document can be signed for minors: Adult is signing on behalf of the minor. The adult is not participating.
Document can be signed for adult with accompanying minor: Adult is signing on behalf of the minor and themselves.

Signature Authorizations

There are two sections here that you will need to review and agree to when setting up your document.
Electronic Signature Authorization - Signer is agreeing to electronic signatures AND any other terms that you include here to supplement the content of your document.
Parent/Guardian Authorization - This section will appear ONLY when a parent or guardian is signing on behalf of a minor. It is designed to affirm that the parent or guardian is of the appropriate age to sign this document and is in fact the legal parent or guardian of the minor for whom they are signing.

You may use the content in these sections but do so at your own risk. Please consult directly with your legal counsel for assistance with your document content, signature authorization, and parent/guardian authorization.

UPDATE: As of June 2021, Date of Birth is no longer a mandatory field. Do keep in mind that by turning off this field, you can not enforce the Starting Adult Age feature of WaiverSign so it's recommended to avoid turning off DOB unless you've consulted legal counsel.
