Reports: Sales by Product

This report will show product sales data based off of product information such as Product Name and other filters.

The Basics

The Sales by Product report is a grouping of product sales data based on Product Names for a given date period and any number of applied filters. The report can be exported as a .csv file to Excel for further manipulation. This article will cover the specifics of how to understand all of the data provided on this report.

To open the Sales by Product report, go to:  Reports > Sales and Marketing > Sales by Product.

If you are a business using the TrueConnect feature to connect to other Suppliers or Resellers, read more about the reporting differences in Sales by Product: TrueConnect.

Filtering the Report

Clicking the funnel/filter icon to the right of the date range will allow the user to begin selecting filters for the information display.

 Order Details

Date Range Options:

  • Use Transaction Date* (Default)
    • Organizes results based on accounting line item transactions (such as adding or removing guests/products on an order, adding/removing fees, taxes, or discounts, etc.) during the date range indicated.
    • Example: I applied a discount to a product on June 1 and made no other changes. When running for date range June 1 to June 1 only the discount transaction line is calculated in the product totals.

  • Use Product Start Date*
    • Organizes results where a product starts within this date range.
    • Example: Show me all transactions (regardless of transaction date) for products that start on July 1 - 5 broken down per day.

  • Use Transaction Date and Start Date*
    • Organizes results for transaction line items that occurred within the Transaction Date range (totaled) where the product Start Date occurs in the product start date range.
    • Example: Show me all transactions that occurred July 1 - 5 broken down per day for products starting in 2020.

  • Use Order Created Date*
    • Organizes results where an order was created within this date range.
    • Example: Show me all transactions (regardless of transaction date) for orders created on July 1 - 5 broken down per day.

  • Use Order Created Date and Start Date*
    • Organizes results where an order was created within Order Created Date range and where the Start Date falls within the product start date range.
    • Example: Show all transaction line items (regardless of transaction date) for orders created July 1 - 5 broken down per day for products leaving in 2020.

Order Number - optional text field. Use to search for a specific order.

*It’s helpful to understand that a Transaction Date is the date of an accounting modification to an order and will be totaled and grouped for a specific date. A Transaction Date can be the same as the Order Created Date, but if any changes (cancellations, additions, date changes, discounts, etc.) are made at the order level, an additional Transaction Date for the order number will be added. For a more detailed breakdown view of transactions, you can check out the Detail by Transaction report (link to report coming soon); when used with the same dates and parameters, results for this report and transactions as displayed one by one.
